With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Betty Surujni Addy, who departed this life at the age of 91 in Oldsmar, Florida. Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed.
Born in Buxton, Guyana, Betty later lived in Georgetown before moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She eventually settled in Largo and then Clearwater, Florida, where she spent her final years surrounded by loved ones. Betty was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and lived her life guided by faith, love, and generosity.
She had an incredible business sense and was remarkably successful at whatever she attempted. Her wisdom, experiences, and above all, her selflessness have shaped not just our lives but the lives of everyone she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arran Addy; her sister, Beege Seebarran; her brothers, Prem, Charan, and Anand Persaud; her adopted daughter, Shantie Singh; and her parents, Durga and Veda Persaud.
Betty is survived by her loving children: Satie (Sato) Prashad, Romona (Rick) Fisher, Michael (Hema) Coomar, Tony (Devi) Coomar, Peter (Claire) Coomar, and Roma (Dan) Mangru. She is also survived by her adopted children, Raj (Ann) Persaud and Darsh (Anita) Addy. Betty was a proud and cherished grandmother to Anil & Avin Prashad, Richard & Christopher Fisher, Geetanjali & Mala Coomar, Neha & Yahvi Coomar, Lokesh & Nitesh Coomar, Mikhil Coomar, and Matthew & Gabrielle Mangru. She was also a beloved great-grandmother to Harrison, Leilani, and Kaya.
She is also survived by her sisters, Kamala Gupta and Indira Plumer, and her brother, Gerry Persaud.
A service to honor and celebrate Betty’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on April 6, 2025, at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 7820 38th Ave N, St. Petersburg, Florida.
Betty’s kindness, resilience, and deep love for her family will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
