Julia Lou (Judy) Winter age 98 of Colorado Springs, CO formerly of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025.

Judy was born north of Holden, MO in the home built on the land her ancestors had homesteaded since the early 1800s. She was the only child of Gus and Mabel DeMasters and was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers. Judy was united in marriage to Weldon Winter on November 13, 1948.

She was a graduate of Holden High School and the now University of Central Missouri where Judy began a lifelong passion for Alpha Sigma Alpha National Sorority. Upon marriage to Weldon, Judy embarked on an adventure of more than 50 plus years. Due to his career in the automobile industry, they moved countless times before settling down in Blue Springs.

Judy led an active life of serving and helping care for others. She was active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Independence where she served as an ordained Deacon. Judy served for more than 30 years as a national officer of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and a founding member of the Sorority’s National Foundation. She was a charter member of the Medical Center of Independence (now Centerpoint Medical Center of Independence) Hospital Auxiliary. Judy was a proud member of the Independence Pioneer Chapter of Daughter’s of the American Revolution and equally proud of her volunteer service as a Respite Care Volunteer for Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care. She was also a member of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Nancy Winter of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren Gregory Winter and wife Jenny Napier of Centennial, CO, and Julia and Patrick Kane of Lee’s Summit MO as well as two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Miles Kane. Julia Kane was her namesake and a fourth generation Julia.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Weldon.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, it is her wish that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 N Pleasant Street, Independence, MO 64050 or Kansas City Hospice House, 9001 State Line Rd #300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
