Mary was born on December 10, 1938 to Johnny Dewitt Heskett and Blanche Elizabeth (Fox) Heskett. She married her beloved husband, Curtis Hopper on December 16, 1966 in Hobbs, New Mexico. They shared 43 wonderful years together. Curtis preceded her in death on August 28, 2009 in Loveland, Colorado.
Mary and Curtis resided for many years in Hobbs, New Mexico, and raised their family there before retiring in Loveland, Colorado to be closer to their youngest daughter Nita Beth and her family.
Mrs. Hopper worked for many years in the office at JCPenney in Hobbs, New Mexico before her retirement.
Mary and Curtis were lifelong faithful members of Temple Baptist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico and served the Lord in many different capacities, during those years.
Mary was a woman of strong, unwavering faith. She loved her Lord with all her heart, she cherished and loved her Curtis dearly, and was a rock and source of strength and love to all her family. She had a quiet, gentle way about her, and was a fierce prayer warrior for all. If you needed prayer, Mary was the first one in line to pray. She was such a comfort to her family and friends and we were so blessed to call her ours.
During her later years while residing at a care facility, she discovered she enjoyed all sorts of arts and crafts, and was even artist of the month once. She participated in all sorts of activities at the center and was president of the resident activity committee for a while. She had many friends there and was loved by all.
Mrs. Hopper is survived by two daughters, Tammy (David) Hatfield of Hobbs, NM, Nita Beth (Kevin) Brown of Severance, CO, step-daughter Lydia-Beth (Kenneth) Sanford of Maryland, one stepson Stephen (Laurie) Hopper of Salado, TX.
She’s also survived by two brothers Johnny D. Heskett of Kingsland, TX, and Rusty (Lyn) Heskett of Highland Haven, TX, and one sister Frances Lee of Refugio, TX. Mary is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren who loved their precious “Nan” dearly. As well as a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Curtis, son Charlie Henderson and infant baby David Matthew Hopper, and her sister Esta Mae.
