Michael "Mike" Eubanks

Michael (Mike) Alan Eubanks, 70, passed away (cardiac arrest) on March 22, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. He died on the 17th hole of River Bend Golf Course, doing what he loved. 

He was born and raised in the high desert town of Apple Valley, California. He joined the US Navy out of high school in 1972. He was stationed on the USS Canopus in Scotland where he enjoyed traveling around Europe when he was off duty. Afterwards he joined the Navy Reserves and served for 20 years from 1976-1996. 

After leaving active duty in the Navy, he attended Cal State Fullerton, where he received a degree in communications. While in college he was the director of the Pub and organized the entertainment activities. He met all sorts of interesting people, and it opened his world. After graduation he stayed active with the Alumni Association, serving as President 1996-97.   

He spent much of his life (35 years) living in Balboa Beach, CA. He loved the beach! He had a variety of jobs but ended his career as a Realtor in Newport Beach. Mike retired in 2012 and moved to Boise. It became home to him. 

Mike loved to travel. He did two around the world tours, in 1972 and 1975. He traveled all over, from Japan to New Zealand and beyond. That ignited the travel bug, and he continued to travel his entire life. His latest trips were to Dubai and Costa Rica. In 2017 he traveled with his sister back to visit Scotland, the first visit since he left the Navy. A few years ago he spent 6 weeks traveling the US visiting friends, family and seeing the sights. He had many other trips planned. The walls of his home are lined with travel and adventure pictures. 

Since he was a young kid, he loved television and movies. He went to the theater weekly for decades. He knew every new movie that came out and saw most of them. His Regal Rewards has a lifetime point count of over 1.4 million!  Television was another passion. He joked that watching his favorite TV shows was like a part time job.  

He has been active his entire life. He played tennis, ran/jogged, participated in running events (5K's & Marathons), rollerbladed, played beach volleyball, mountain climbed, river rafted, snow skied, even skydived. He loved pushing himself physically. For years he committed to 100 sit-ups and push-ups a day, and in the last decade he began walking 10K steps a day, which he usually exceeded. But his biggest love was golf. He tried to play as many rounds a year as possible. Many years playing over 200 rounds.  

He was also active in his community. He volunteered at the Morrison Center for the past 10 years. He was on the board of his HOA and active with neighborhood activities. During the years he lived in CA he was active with the Red Cross and was involved with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) helping prepare for emergencies/disasters. For years he volunteered for the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. Mike was also involved with his high school class reunion committee. He recently attended the 50th reunion. 

Mike loved people and stayed in contact with those he met throughout every aspect of his life. He never met a stranger. He had several, deep, lifelong friendships. His annual Christmas card list was long, and he sent out cards with a holiday letter every year. He was a great communicator!  

He is survived by his sister, Zia Eubanks. His niece, Elisha Eubanks, and her children, Isabella and Firefly Mitchell. Mike was divorced, and never had children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Eubanks, Isabell Deushane, stepfather Donald Deushane and beloved grandmother Amy Gofinch Packi. 

There will be a service celebrating his life at the American Legion Post #113, 22 W Broadway Ave, Meridian, ID 83642 on Saturday, April 12 at 2:30 pm.

Michael led a full life filled with adventure, taking part in all the things he enjoyed. It is fitting that he made his transition doing what he loved most, playing golf. We should all be so lucky. Although it was much too soon, it was a great exit!
