Jeptha Lee Carter, 75, passed away peacefully after a brief period of declining health on April 2, 2025, surrounded by family. Jeptha was born on December 24, 1949, to the late Murrell O. and Jeanette Culbertson Carter. He is survived by his children Lisa Hooven (Edmon), Shannan Salyer (Chad), and Derrick Carter (fiancée Bri Shaw); 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; lifelong friend and companion Judy Carter; brother Dwight Carter (Gertrude); and sister Patricia Carter. He also leaves behind Rock, T, and L, special horses and mule from the farm.
Jeptha was proud to have served his country in the US Army 101st Airbourne during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from Holliston Mills, he loved watching football, “How ‘bout them Niners”. He loved tending to his garden and had a love for all animals but especially enjoyed watching the birds.
Honored to carry his earthly body to is final resting place will be his grandsons Tyler and Jacob Salyer, Austin Hooven, along with Michael Gordon, Elijah Gordon, and Brayden Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Duncan and Ralph Trent.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 7th, 2025 at 2 pm, those wishing to attend are asked to arrive by 1:45 pm. Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the no kill animal shelter in Hawkins County, Tennessee. The family would also like to extend their thanks to the kindness and compassion given by the nursing and staff at the VA Community Living Center.
