James L. Scott

In Loving Memory
Belchertown- James Leonard Scott, 78, passed away March 25, 2025, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born on August 28, 1946 in Holyoke, MA to the late Leonard F. and Stella I. (Kwiatkowska) Scott. Jim was a Certified Industrial Hygienist and worked for several companies including EnviroScience, Fuss and O'Neill, and Hygienetics. In the early 80's, he designed many work projects involved in asbestos abatement in the local area and surrounding New England states. He also designed projects for lead paint removal and air quality in schools and other public areas. He found his work challenging and always enjoyed his co-workers. Jim served four years of active duty in the US Air Force at Ubon, Thailand, as an AF Bioenvironmental Engineer. Following his honorable discharge, Jim joined the AF Reserve and served with the 439th Medical Squadron as a Bioenvironmental Engineer, checking the safety of the various programs at Westover Air Force Base. As an active duty reservist, he was an Air Force Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer EPLO to the MA office in Maynard, MA.Jim always found enjoyment working at WAFB and working with such interesting and dedicated people. Jim retired as a Colonel after many years of dedicated service.Jim and his wife, Susan, loved nature and being outside. Together, alongside their canine companions, they enjoyed fly fishing and hiking in numerous states. Jim's favorite spot was the Deerfield River and Shelburne Falls, always stopping at Richardson's Candy Kitchen in Deerfield.He and Susan loved the Mid-Atlantic and southern states for their beauty and historic sites. Jim was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belchertown.Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Susan (Sinkoski) Scott; siblings, Debbie Golas of Orlando, FL, Cathy Maule of New Canada, ME, and Michael Scott of Wilkes-Barre, PA. He also leaves his niece Hilary Rouse of Westford, MA, and her two sons Jack and Charlie.Visitation will be held on April 14, 2025 from 9:30-10:30am at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi. Burial will immediately follow in New St. Williams Cemetery in Ware. For those wishing, donations can be made to Baystate Health Hospice to support the nurses who provide exceptional care, or to Dakin Humane Society.
