Ora Louise Carmichael, 86 and loving wife of Chaplain Galvin Mixon Carmichael, Jr. (Ret. Lt. Col., USA) passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 6:37 pm. She was born to the late Dan Bowling and Marie Callison Bowling on May 8, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio.

In addition to her loving husband of 66 years, Ora is survived by their two children, Gary Mixon (Jill) Carmichael and Amy Carole Carmichael; four grandchildren, Justin, Chancey, Cole, and Cameron; one great-grandchild Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews, and additional family members. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by fourteen siblings.

After graduating high school, Ora attended business school and rose to the position of secretary at the home office of Ohio Casuality Insurance Company. She was most proud of her work as a teacher’s assistant during U.S. Army tours of duty with Galvin at Ft. Stewart, Georgia and Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

Ora’s hobbies and interests included gardening, sewing, knitting, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a great cook and baker who was known for baking delicious, sweet treats. Ora had many online companions. Those who knew her will remember her spirit of innovation and creativity.

Most of all, she loved her family and close friends including her passion for family genealogy.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 8th at 6:29 pm at Galvin and Ora’s home (540 Parkside Drive, Lexington, KY 40505).
