Stephen Jon Waszazak
September 3rd, 1974 - March 24th, 2025
Though your sun has set, your light remains, and your spirit lives on in the sky. Walk now freely in the light of God.
To know Steve was to share a laugh or a kind word — whether you were a close friend or a stranger. His gentle humor and open-hearted spirit brought ease to those around him. Everyone who knew Steve felt the warmth of his generous soul.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Steve moved to Florida at a young age, drawn to the light and water. After spending many years in South Carolina, where he began his journey into fatherhood, he returned to the Bradenton / Sarasota area — the place where his heart truly belonged.
Steve was a skilled IT leader, proficient in security, engineering, networking, and managing operating system software. He held himself to the highest standards with unwavering dedication, always ensuring everything ran smoothly. He stayed late to solve problems, refused to cut corners, and approached both small and big tasks with integrity and commitment.
He cherished simple joys: trips to the waterfront, cooking a perfectly brined roast, a glowing sunset, diner breakfasts, college sports, coffee ice cream, and Heath Bar cookies. He loved waving at practically every car or person passing by, dining at Carrabba’s, and aimlessly walking the aisles of Publix. Always ready to explore, he found peace in both long drives and quiet walks.
His love for nature and community showed in the way he gave back — sea turtle protection, helping after storms, and volunteering where he was needed. After the hurricanes of 2024, he worked tirelessly in the heat of Manatee County, clearing debris, fostering a rescue dog, and delivering meals through Meals on Wheels. He offered quiet strength and compassion every step of the way.
Above all, Steve was endlessly proud of his children, Jonathan and Alexis. His spirit lives on in them. Jonathan carries his quick humor, independent spirit, and boundless curiosity. Alexis embodies his generosity, deep kindness, and sense of community. He will forever be cheering them on.
Steve will be deeply missed by his siblings, Rob (Stephanie), Mike (Shannon), and Karin; his godmother and aunt, Peggy Brown-Argese; and his cousin, Michelle Brown-Fleishman. He is survived by his beloved children, Jonathan and Alexis, who were always close to his heart, as well as his nieces and nephews, Christian, Samantha, and Joshua, and his former wife, Jennifer Waszazak (née Webb). He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Judy. Steve will be remembered by his extended family, friends, and the many lives he quietly touched.
.
Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
