Aspen Mortuaries - Lakewood
Hollis Ieleene Writebol
May 13th, 1934 - March 26th, 2025
Hollis Ieleene Writebol was born in St. Francis, Kansas on May 13, 1934. She passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 26, 2025.
Hollis was born Hollis Ieleene Brewer, the second child of Raymond Jacob Brewer and Beulah Alice (Keller) Brewer on the family farm in Northwestern Kansas. The family relocated to Fort Morgan, Colorado in the mid-1940s. Hollis attended First Christian Church of Fort Morgan where her mother served as church organist and her father was a deacon.
As a student at Fort Morgan High School, she met Gerald R. (Jerry) Writebol. She was married to Gerald on June 7, 1953, a week after her graduation from Fort Morgan High. The couple celebrated 71 years of marriage before her passing. Four children were born to Hollis and Gerald: Gary Ray Writebol in 1954, David Lee Writebol in 1955, Karen Ileene Writebol in 1956, and Lance Jimmy Writebol (deceased) in 1959.
Hollis and Gerald resided in Lakewood, Colorado after Gerald was honorably discharged after serving in the U. S. Army, stationed in Washington State. The family attended Mountair Christian Church until relocating to Evergreen, Colorado in 1966, where they joined the Evergreen Christian Church. Later they moved to their Sixth Avenue West area home and became members of the Green Mountain Christian Church.
Hollis relished her role as homemaker for Gerald and the four lively children and enjoyed gardening and canning or freezing produce from the garden. She was skillful in embroidery, sewing, crocheting, and knitting and other handcrafts. Later she volunteered at the Lutheran Hospital. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) at church. Hollis served in the church as prayer coordinator and greeter. Together with Jerry, she toured the U. S. , Canada, and Alaska by motorcycle and loved camping and travel, sharing their faith in Jesus Christ among the motorcyclist community. The couple also traveled abroad to the Holy Land, and on a separate trip, visited her son, David and his wife Nancy, at their mission station in Zambia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her son, Lance Writebol. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gerald (Jerry); sons Gary and David; daughter, Karen; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Committal of remains will be on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:30am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Colonel Dave Nagel, officiating. Visitation and Memorial Services celebrating her life will be held the same day at Green Mountain Christian Church, 10700 Exposition Drive, Lakewood, Colorado 80226 from 11:30am, Pastor Charles Postell, officiating. Guests are invited to remain for a Fellowship Meal following the conclusion of the Memorial Services.
The family would like to thank Elevation Hospice for their compassionate and gentle help to Jerry and family in caring for Hollis during her final days at home. Memorial Contributions may be sent to Green Mountain Christian Church Missions Fund or your favorite local church food pantry.
