Marion Ellen Long September 11, 1942 - March 18, 2025 Marion, a woman of vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Senn High School and Pestalozzi-Froebel Teachers College, laying the foundation for a life rich in connection and service. In 1968, with a spirit of adventure, she and her first husband, Jay Peebles, ventured west to Oregon, establishing roots in Lake Oswego. Later, she shared a loving partnership with Sonny Long, building a life together in Battle Ground (Yacolt) and Vancouver (Felida), Washington. Upon Sonny’s passing in 2022 she relocated to Sherwood, Oregon.Marion’s professional journey was marked by her exceptional ability to connect with people. From her early years as a dental assistant/hygienist to her impactful roles at Lewis & Clark College and Ronald McDonald House Charities, she brought warmth and dedication to every endeavor. During her working years, she also wholeheartedly supported Sonny as a dedicated coach's wife. In retirement, Marion embraced life’s simple pleasures: gardening, travel, movies, and most importantly, spending time with her cherished family and friends. She was a devoted grandmother, always present at her grandchildren’s events, and a compassionate volunteer at Northwest Children's Outreach.She leaves behind her loving daughter, Julie Atchison (Larry); sons, Mike (Susie) Peebles and Craig (Tanya) Peebles; stepsons, Roger (Maxine) Long, David (Holly) Long, and Brian (Diane) Long; stepdaughter, Kristi Johnston; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sonny Long; her parents, Edward and Helen Thien; her brother, Jim Thien; and Daisy.In remembrance of Marion, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon/SW Washington (rmhcoregon.org), Northwest Children’s Outreach (nwchildrens.org), or the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
