Susan Sandstrom, of Eugene, went to meet her Lord in heaven on March 31st, 2025. She passed away peacefully with her children near her in the final days. She was 99 years old.
Susan was born Suzanne Marie Terese Keyeux in Verviers, Belgium, on July 14, 1925, to Adolphe Keyeux Hauzeur and Mariette Pagnloulle. In 1935, her father moved the family to Columbia, South America. As a teenager, she attended boarding school in Belgium and stayed there for the duration of World War II. Following the war, she moved to Columbia to be with her family. She later moved to Canada, where she met her husband, John Henry Sandstrom, known to everyone as Henry.
In 1960, Susan, Henry, and three young children moved to Eugene, Oregon, where they settled permanently and where two more children were born. She stayed home raising her children until 1971 and then enjoyed being a bookkeeper until she retired in 2000. In retirement, she enjoyed quilting, knitting, and reading. All through her life, she was active in her church parishes and volunteered for local charities including the Carmelite Nuns and Birthright.
Her husband, Henry, was an electrician and home builder and recently passed away on November 10th, 2024. They had been happily married for over 69 years. Susan was preceded in death by her mother and father, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her five children John, Marianne, Philip, Andrew, and Mark.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, April 11th at 10:45 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 1150 Maxwell Road, Eugene Oregon. Susan’s final resting place will be next to her late husband at Lane Memorial Gardens at 5300 W 11th Avenue, Eugene Oregon.
