Wynonia Brewington-Burke
June 28th, 1950 - April 4th, 2025
It Is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Wynonia Brewington-Burke ("Winnie") this past Friday April 4th, 2025, at the age of 74. Wynonia was born in Sampson County June 28th, 1950 was the second child / daughter of Lacy Brewington and Dorothy Brewington. As a sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Wynonia leaves behind her three siblings; Chris Brewington-Campbell, Emmitt Brewington, Michael Brewington, three children; Andrew Jacobs, Sheryl McKenney, Kristine Williams, seven grandchildren; Audrey and Kelly Jacobs, Jackson, Charles and Cole McKenney, Bradley, Brandon, Brayden and Bryce WIlliams, three great-grandchildren Benjamin, Biel and Catalaya WIlliams. As a young woman raised in Clinton, NC and Brooklyn, NY she had various experiences that inspired her to pursue her education and achieve MA and MS degrees from Colorado Mountain College and the University of Phoenix. During her life she had been an historical investigator and activist for the Coharie Tribe and fellow Native Indigenous Tribes, North Carolina State Employee, Photographer, Artist, and a Vice Presidential candidate for the RCP in 1988. Wynonia's early activism and volunteer work in the Coharie Community was an inspiration to her fellow and younger generations in the tribal communities. She found fulfillment working as an artist and art teacher and being a full time Grandmother in Arizona. In the Fall of 2024 Wynonia invited Jesus into her heart and is now living in glory, giving praise to the Lord.
