Amy is the name she chose after being in a school play where she played the part of a girl with name. She graduated from Mercy High School in Omaha, Nebraska and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and a Masters from Lesley College. Amy was a science teacher in both private and public schools in Omaha and Millard Nebraska. She loved teaching, doing research and writing curriculum for the Middle Schools she worked at. She taught thousands of students the wonders of science, one of her favorite field trips was fossil hunting in the limestone quarries of Nebraska.

In 1995 Dennis and Amy retired to their dream home and property in Tecumseh, Missouri. There, she enjoyed teaching fly fishing and fly tying to anglers of all ages. She helped start the Sowbug Roundup in Mountain Home Arkansas, a fly-fishing show that is still going strong 25 years later. She was also fond of crafts, quilting and travel. Most of all she wanted to help others. She always said “that’s why we are here.” She loved working with people; kids at school, the elderly, the down-trodden and those who needed a helping hand.

In 2010 they moved to Loveland Colorado to be closer to family where she enjoyed quality time with each of her grandchildren. She became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Amy was fond of her Bible Study group, watching her grandkids sporting events and spending summers fishing in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming.

Amy overcame many health issues over the years. She fought chronic conditions including multiple sclerosis, mycobacterium avium (MAC), bronchiectasis and ultimately cancer. By doing so, she became an inspiration to many. She was a fighter. Her favorite Bible passage pretty much says the code she lived by: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). She never gave in, she never lost faith.

Amy was preceded in death by her mother: Virginia (Peninger) Lazzaro, Father: Nunzio Lazzaro, and two sisters: Joan Taylor, Omaha, NE and Dorothy Spencer, Denver, CO.

She is survived by: her husband of 53 years Dennis Gregg Galyardt. Her Son, Dr. Wesley Jason Galyardt, Wife: Carrie Galyardt. Her son Dr. Benjamin Lewis Galyardt, Wife: Michelle Galyardt. Her Grandchildren: Carter Galyardt, Dylan Galyardt, Bridger Galyardt, Rohan Galyardt, Faith Galyardt, River Galyardt, Gavyn Galyardt. She also had 9 nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings include her twin Sister Nancy Tiedemann, Mary Gibson, Rosemarie Hatfield.

The memorial service will be at Redeemer Lutheran on May 12, 2025 at 11:00am and will also be available to live stream at redeemerconnect.com.  In Lieu of flowers Amy requests donations be made to Pathways Hospice, The Mathews House or Colorado Youth Outdoors.
