Jon Ryan Brown, 38, beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona. He was recovering from a complex knee surgery after a skiing accident and died several weeks later from complications. Ryan was born May 4, 1986, in Provo, Utah. He spent his early years in Walnut Creek, California, and later moved with his family to Arizona, where he attended elementary, junior high and high school and took classes at Maricopa Community College.

Ryan was a natural athlete who loved the out-of-doors and excelled at many sports. One of his favorite activities was skiing with family, including his young nieces and nephew, whom he encouraged to follow him down even the most difficult runs. They adored him and were always eager to spend time with their “crazy Uncle Ryan,” who they trusted as someone patient and kind. On annual family trips to Hawaii, Ryan loved to scuba dive, jet ski, surf, play on the beach, and enjoy luaus and the local culture. He looked forward to riding ATVs with his Dad in the mountains and desert, joining him on fishing trips and golfing outings and spending time with his extended family in Grand Teton National Park at annual reunions. Ryan’s fun-loving personality and big smile brought out the joy and playfulness in others. He was extremely generous and had a caring, gentle spirit.

Ryan was devoted to his family. He served as a caretaker to his elderly great aunt when she became bed-ridden and worked with his father in his medical practice. He took great pride in helping his mom, walking her dogs, shopping with her and taking over some household duties. He loved to surprise her with flowers or an unexpected outing. Ryan had a special and close relationship with his sister Leilani and her husband Nick and enjoyed many adventures over the years with his sister, including a memorable trip to Germany. For decades, he talked daily on the phone to his Dad when they were apart, and was his father’s best friend.  Ryan was also there to help his grandparents, whether it was accompanying them on airplane flights, helping with yard and house maintenance or being an extra set of hands whenever he was needed.

Ryan was a man of faith, who loved the Lord and who is now at peace, filled with immense love and surrounded by loved ones who have gone before. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Ryan is survived by his father, Dr. Jon David Brown, his mother Karen Mae Burke and a sister Leilani (Nick) McConnell. He is also survived by grandparents Lisa Burke, and Kenneth and Jean Brown, by nieces Anaiya and Saraiya McConnell, nephew Kai McConnell and by many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Ryan was preceded in death by his grandfather Talmage Burke and by a cousin, Krystal Read.

A viewing will be held Thursday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 West Juniper Ave., in Gilbert, Arizona. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East in Rexburg, Idaho.
