Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services - Ladson
Michael David Reynolds
October 21st, 1952 - April 4th, 2025
Michael David Reynolds, 72, passed away on April 4, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina, with his beloved wife Mary by his side—just as she was throughout his life.
Born on October 21, 1952, in Beaufort, South Carolina, Michael was a man of quiet strength, sharp wit, and a deep love for his family.
He is survived by his wife Mary Reynolds; his children Tayna Reynolds, Shannon Brock, Mesha Reynolds, and Michelle Reynolds; his grandchildren Kalisa Reynolds, Chelsey Thomason, and Josh Brock; and his great-granddaughter, Aubree Thomason. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. “Doc” and Doris Reynolds.
Michael could fix just about anything—except, as he’d often quip, “the crack of dawn and a broken heart.” But the truth is, he mended more broken hearts than he ever let on, and held his family together with steady hands and a generous heart.
He worked for many years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where his dedication and precision earned him the Navy Meritorious Civilian Award, recognizing his critical role in getting a submarine deployment-ready on short notice. He was an unofficial bubblehead, going down in the submarines after they were repaired, making sure every detail was shipshape before they returned to sea. After the shipyard closed, he brought the same steady work ethic and practical ingenuity to his work at the local paper mill.
A storyteller at heart, Michael inherited his gift for tales from his father and rarely passed up the chance to share a memory. His stories were more than just recollections—they were proof of a life well lived, and of the wisdom that came from it.
Though his absence is deeply felt, Michael’s legacy endures in the love he gave, the lives he shaped, and the laughter he shared. He often said that when he passed, he didn’t want a funeral—he wanted a party. True to his wishes, the family will host a celebration of his life on the one-year anniversary of his passing.
He will be profoundly missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
He was one of a kind.
