Luis Alberto, 80, a proud resident of Pennsylvania and formerly of Ecuador, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in 1945 in Ecuador, Luis grew up with strong values of family, responsibility, and service. At the age of 19, he joined the Ecuadorian Army, where he served proudly from 1964 to 1974. His decade of military service shaped the man he became—disciplined, resilient, and devoted to something greater than himself.

After leaving the Army, Luis remained deeply connected to his community and his culture. He carried with him the traditions of his homeland, which he passed on through his stories, his cooking, his music, and the way he treated people—with kindness, respect, and a deep sense of duty. Luis had a remarkable gift for storytelling—his tales, often filled with lessons and humor, were shared around countless kitchen tables, always with a twinkle in his eye.

Later in life, Luis immigrated to the United States in pursuit of a better life for his family. He eventually settled in Pennsylvania, where he found peace and joy in a quiet, rural lifestyle that reminded him of the landscapes of home. Despite the distance from Ecuador, he never lost his roots. He remained proud of his heritage and passed that pride down to his children and grandchildren.

Luis was a devoted father to Ana Barcos, Carlos Vera, Narcissa Vera, and Jorge Vera. His children remember him as a steady hand, a wise guide, and a source of unconditional love. He was also a proud grandfather to Bryan, Brigitte, Danny, Diana, Genella, Helen, Ginger, and many more cherished grandchildren. His legacy will live on through them—through their strength, their laughter, and the values he instilled in them.

To those who knew him, Luis was more than a father or grandfather—he was a mentor, a friend, and a source of comfort. His presence had a calming effect; his words carried weight. He was never quick to judge but always ready to listen. Whether he was sharing a simple meal, sitting quietly with someone in need, or telling a favorite story for the hundredth time, he made others feel seen and valued.

Luis Alberto’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and faith in family. Even as he faced the challenges of cancer with courage and quiet strength, he continued to give his love generously and live with purpose. He lived not for himself, but for those he loved—and in doing so, left behind a legacy that will endure.

Family and friends are invited to join in a weekend of remembrance and love in honor of Luis's life:
