Patricia Jane "P.J." Cook
April 25th, 1953 - April 13th, 2025
Patricia Jane “P.J.” Cook, 71, of Lexington, and wife of Richard W. Cook passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Baptist Health-Lexington after a brief illness. She was born to the late Robert Edward Roseberry and Patricia Ann Beeman Roseberry on April 25, 1953 in New Castle, Indiana.
In addition to her loving husband, P.J. is survived by five children: Colin (Teresa Croce) Sands, Peyton (Lauren) Sands, Kristin Cook, Megan Cook, Ashley (Scott Buser) Cook; her sister, Ellen Jennings; two grandchildren, Aurora Cook and Monroe Sands; a host of friends; and her dogs, Doc & Sam. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Roseberry.
P.J. attended Eastern Kentucky University, attaining a master’s degree in education. As a special education teacher for more than twenty-five years at Fayette County Public Schools, P.J. possessed a unique ability to reach the students that otherwise would have fallen through the cracks. She was proudest of the impact she had on the lives of her students.
She was a voracious reader and a talented quilter. Her favorite days involved long conversations on a patio with friends and family, getting a hug from Aurora or holding Monroe, attending a retreat with her quilting group, or sitting next to her husband watching Masterpiece. She always tried to ask the right questions. She always made time for others. She always tried to help. P.J. was kind, generous, and patient. Her words held the power to help those around her make sense of the world.
She was unique. She was loved. She will be missed.
A celebration of life gathering will take place on Monday, April 21 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Clark Legacy Center-Brannon Crossing.
Memorial donations should be made to any organization that seeks to improve the lives of women.
