Betty Jean Spoon
February 13th, 1936 - April 11th, 2025
Betty Jean Spoon, 89, of Kernersville, NC, died peacefully at home on April 11, 2025. Born in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, she was the first child of Van and Effie Jones. To all who knew Betty, she was a feisty, funny and opinionated extrovert who never met a stranger. In fact, Betty met the love of her life when she agreed to correspond with a co-worker’s son who was stationed in Alaska. It was love at first sight when she finally met Airmen Ron Spoon in person. Together, they embarked on a marriage full of adventures across the globe, calling places like Morocco and Germany home.
Betty was well known for her incredible sewing skills—from designing wedding gowns to stitching Christmas stockings. In her 40’s, Betty found her dream job in banking - she could talk to people all day long. Many weekend hours were spent relaxing in her recliner and watching all manner of sports. She always had a story to share that both surprised and enlightened. Her faith was expressed through her baptism at First Christian Church of Kernersville and her favorite Bible verse which she carried in her wallet - “Do not fear for I am with you…,” Isaiah 41:10.
Family brought Betty a lot of joy. She leaves behind her children: Anita (Dinesh) and Ron (Missy); six grandchildren: Sheila, Lisa, Tim (Stacy), Sarah (Carlos), Ronny (Laura), and Reanna; and seven great-grandchildren: Ben, Madison, Chris, Hayley, Asha, Naomi, and Ronny Guy. Betty is survived by her brother Dale (Arlene), sisters-in-law Jo Anne (Ron), Lana (Dan) and Irene as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Ron, and sister Jo Ann.
The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home, 213 W. Mountain Street, Kernersville NC 27284 on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 from 2:00PM - 3:00PM. A celebration of Betty's life will follow beginning at 3:00PM.
