Clark Legacy Center - Frankfort
Martin George Venzin
March 1st, 1958 - April 11th, 2025
Frankfort - Martin George Venzin, son of the late Agnes and Arthur Venzin passed away at home on April 11, 2025. An avid hiker, geode enthusiast, skilled fisherman and occasionally lucky hunter, he was surely our only hope of survival in a zombie apocalypse scenario. He shared this passion with his younger brother, Roger. Even when the maintenance work proved arduous and trout haul sparse, their cabin trips remained among his most cherished outings.
In the outdoors and beyond, Marty valued adventure – he always placed journey above destination, but he saw much of the world, too. As a football player at IUP, and later a traveling salesman, his talents and ambitions often sent him buzzing off to new places. Key West Florida stood out as a favorite destination, which he frequented with his late wife, Elizabeth Venzin. He enjoyed visiting their three children in cities around the world from Bowling Green to New York City, Vienna, and Lisbon. He made international friends on each voyage, and was always eager to try native foods and engage with locals, even when they had no idea what he was saying to them.
He was a hell of a dancer, a fabulous cook and a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus. Martin found purpose in helping others through his church and his volunteer work at St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was always willing to help others out and those that knew him were never allowed to go hungry, regardless of the circumstances.
He loved house music, heaping plates of red meat at 3AM, his grandson Jude and his cats, Buddy and Sam. The man could not tolerate idleness. He earned the name Party Marty because his attendance always sent the function into overdrive, as well as for his track record of clocking more concerts and music festivals in the past decade than most will experience in a lifetime. Let’s set the record straight: he was never afraid to be the oldest guy at the club.
Martin Venzin was a son, a brother, a father and a husband, but everyone will remember him as their most fun-loving friend. Down for anything as long as the price was reasonable and the memories would last, Marty Venzin was “main character energy” personified. Now his stories will live on through those who survive him, including his brother Roger Venzin, his sister Karen Venzin, his three children, Megan, Alex and Hannah Venzin, and his grandson, Jude, who always made him laugh so hard.
Let’s keep laughing in Marty’s honor. Memorial Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 16th at 12PM. On Friday, April 18, 2025 a Celebration of Life will take place at Clark Legacy Center from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. No flowers are requested.
