James "Jim" Leister
September 26th, 1941 - April 2nd, 2025
Jim Leister, a beloved husband, father, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, after a brief stint in hospice care.
Jim served his country with honor, first in the U.S. Air Force and later in the U.S. Navy. After his military retirement, he became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), a profession he took great pride in. Jim’s work as a CRNA touched countless lives, and his colleagues and patients alike remember him for his skill, compassion and unwavering dedication.
In his younger years, Jim had a deep passion for sailing. Throughout his life, Jim lived in several different places across the United States, making lasting memories and friendships along the way. Later in life, he found comfort in the simple pleasures–watching sports and old movies.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Bertha Mae Leister. He is survived by his wife, Sun, and his children: Stephen, Terri, Matthew, and Jeffrey.
A memorial service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County in his memory.
