Elizabeth "Liz" Slone Van Hook
January 26th, 1970 - April 13th, 2025
Elizabeth (Liz) Slone Van Hook, age 55, of Lexington Kentucky, passed away on April 13 after battling a long-term illness. She was born on January 26th, 1970, in Lexington, Kentucky to Bradley and Imogene Van Hook. Liz was devoted to her family, with deep roots in Nicholasville and Jessamine County. She especially loved her work family and colleagues in the Fire, Police and Emergency Services.
Elizabeth attended Eastern Kentucky University with a passion for Public Safety and worked for over two decades as a 911 Dispatcher and Information Officer with different agencies. She found her most rewarding home at Jessamine County 911, where she was known for volunteering to support many community projects. Liz was a committed member of the Kentucky Women’s Law Enforcement Network and worked tirelessly to advance their profession. Despite being wheelchair bound as a teenager, she loved to travel and was completely self-reliant. She lived in the UK for a brief time and had a fondness for Monster films and legendary creatures like Bigfoot. Liz was an avid attendee of the Scarefest event in Lexington as well as a volunteer at the Headley-Whitney Museum and the Lexington Living Arts & Science Center. Liz had an infectious laugh that she shared often. She was a member at Southland Christian Church from the time when it resided on Hill-n-Dale, and had a lasting friendship with our pastor Brewster McCloud. Elizabeth is survived by her Mother Imogene Bourne Van Hook, who is broken-hearted at her unexpected passing. Her brother Skip, sister-in-law Eden and nephews, Will and Finn, will miss her greatly. She was very close with her Aunts - Laverne Bourne, Sue Anne Bourne, Martha Bourne; her Uncles- JC Bourne; Bobby Bourne, Dennis Pigg and her Cousins- DeAnna Cummins, John Bourne, Taylor Bourne, Betsey Bachert, Lynne Hisle and Randy Roberts. Liz was preceded in death by her Aunts Sue Pigg and Billye Ann Roberts.
A memorial service will be held on April 22nd at 11am at the Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nicholasville FOP Christmas Children’s Toy Drive or the Nicholasville Fire Department’s Christmas Children’s Toy Drive.
