On Wednesday, April 9, 2025 Frank (Sonny) Griego Sr. was called to heaven at the age of 90.

Frank was born on February 26, 1935 in Santa Fe, NM to Francisco and Senaida Rodriguez Griego. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War. He loved making people laugh and having conversations about his service and was sharp as tack with details. If you ever had the occasion to sit and speak with him his wit and knowledge was amazing. He was a humble and faithful man who cherished his Virgen De Guadalupe to help guide him through his journey on earth and now is embraced by our Lord in Heaven.

Frank was most happy when surrounded by his family and on his outings to his favorite Casinos to play bingo or his slot machines. He attended daily mass regularly and when asked why he said because he wanted to pray for everyone. He had so much to offer and was always willing to share when he was able. He became the Patriarch of the Griego family at an early age and would set the foundation for those who followed.

Frank was a two term San Miguel County Commissioner which was one of his proudest accomplishments in serving his community. He served on several boards and was a Little League Coach when his boys were younger. Before retirement he was employed with the City of Las Vegas Gas Department, West Las Vegas Schools and ran U&I Liquor Store in Old Town Las Vegas. After retirement he worked at Walmart Garden Center which he said was truly his calling. He loved the social aspect of seeing his old acquaintances and meeting new ones. He truly had the energy of a young man and the wisdom of a giant. He never said no to anything that came before him and always the first to lend a hand.

Frank is survived by his wife Carmen Griego of the family home, his sister Betty Griego and by his children: Elizabeth (Louie), Eileen (Michael), Roger, Carol, Cheryl (Robert), Frank James (Arrabella), Kathy, Fran (Will), Ernestine. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, as well as many nephews, nieces and family and friends who knew and loved him.

He was predeceased by parents, his son, Frank Jr, his sister Della Duran and brothers Jerry Griego and Anthony Johnson. His sons in law Larry Montano and Robert Romero.

Funeral and Burial Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Our memories with him are truly a blessing and we will cherish those times with him for eternity.
