Willwerscheid Funeral Home & Cremation Service - West-Heights
Kai Phillip Skyberg
August 27th, 1987 - April 11th, 2025
Kai passed away suddenly on his way to work on Friday, April 11th 2025.
Kai was born on August 27th 1987 to Marlene and Kendal (Skyberg) Fitzer. He attended schools in Mendota Heights and graduated from Henry Sibley High School in 2006. Kai enjoyed playing sports, but had a passion for soccer. He excelled as a goal keeper and defensive player on many teams; traveling clubs and school. His senior year in HS he was chosen for the All-Conference Team. Wintertime found Kai on his snowboard in Minnesota, Montana and Colorado. With an aptitude for music, he found time to play cello in the school orchestra, and he also took piano lessons.
Kai went on to school at St. Mary’s University in Winona and Inver Hills Community
College. He studied aviation and took flying lessons. In 2009 he soloed. Kai found employment in the aviation industry as a Quality Assurance Manager in aviation manufacturing. Presently he was the Quality Production Lead at Valmont Industries in Mendota Heights.
Kai and his dad, Ken, worked on many DIY projects on their home. Kai could tell stories
of re-roofing and painting their entire house, ripping out a bathroom tile floor and shower and renovating it, pulling up carpeting and refinishing hardwood floors as well as installing new granite counters. Kai was always willing to help at his parents’ catering business. He made morning deliveries, put together box lunches, cut and chopped every kind of fruit and vegetable as well as serving at countless wedding receptions. Adult fun for Kai was fishing, rock climbing, softball, hunting and still more snowboarding.
Kai’s willingness to help a friend or a stranger was a main theme of his life, as well as
his love of dogs. He was always willing to pat a head or rub behind an ear. Kai had chosen to be an organ donor. His donation will help several people with new sight, tissue and vein transplants. He will continue to live on through these wishes.
Kai is survived by his parents, sister, Rikka Kerber, brother-in-law, Mark Kerber and his
adored niece, Sonja Irene Kerber, who will miss her Uncle Kai. Kai is also survived by his aunts and uncles, cousins and countless friends who are still telling stories of Kai.
Memorials preferred to Augustana Lutheran Church.
