Stephen William Flood
September 7th, 1952 - April 13th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Stephen William Flood, 72, of Chapin, SC, formerly of Lakeville, MA, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025. Born on September 7, 1952, in New Bedford, MA, he was the beloved son of the late William and Ruth Flood and the devoted husband of Jacquelyn “Jackie” Flood.
To know Steve was to know love, laughter, and loyalty. He had a zest for life that was contagious, a heart that overflowed with generosity, and a spirit that brought joy to everyone lucky enough to cross his path. His family meant the world to him—and in return, he meant the world to them. He adored his dogs, cherished his collection of funky Hawaiian shirts, and was never without a joke or story that would leave you smiling. As his family lovingly joked, his heart was so big it seemed to need a new stent just to keep up.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1972, after graduating from Fairhaven High School in 1971. A true patriot, he held his service close to his heart and was deeply honored to be a veteran. Following his military service, he became a business owner, running a service station for 12 years. But it was in public service that he found his true calling—spending a decade in law enforcement as a sheriff’s deputy, a role he embraced with integrity, compassion, and courage.
Above all, Steve was a man of many passions. A lifelong Studebaker enthusiast, he proudly owned a 1950 Studebaker Champion Bullet Nose Businessman’s Coupe in his early years and collected memorabilia with joy. In quieter moments, he could be found watching reruns of The Three Stooges or Hogan’s Heroes, laughing like it was the first time. He had a special love for Christmas, donning the red suit and white beard to bring holiday cheer as Santa Claus for neighborhood children—a tradition that reflected his generous heart and playful spirit.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Jacquelyn, and his children: Tina Torrez and husband Jesse of Westport, MA; Heather Wedge and husband Joe of Lakeville, MA; Steven O’Brien and wife Tina of Conway, SC; Tammy Couto and wife Melanie of Chapin, SC; Stephenie Flood and husband Thomas of Aynor, SC; and Mindy Flood and husband Jeffrey of Columbia, SC. He also leaves behind 14 cherished grandchildren and 2 adored great-grandchildren, each one carrying a piece of his love and legacy.
He often joked he was “freaking hilarious” and should have been on the radio—and truth be told, anyone who knew him would agree. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering dedication to others will be remembered forever.
A Funeral service celebrating Stephen’s life will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Woodbridge Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC 29072. The visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the Funeral service at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family simply asks that you share a memory, a laugh, or a moment of kindness in Steve’s honor.
