Wyler Jay Blackburn
August 21st, 1935 - April 16th, 2025
Colonel Wyler Jay Blackburn passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born August 21, 1935, in Clawson, Utah, Jay was the son of Edgar and Thelma Blackburn. He lived a life of devoted service, leadership, and deep personal connection with family, friends, and community.
In 1954, Jay married the love of his life, Creta Lindquist. Together they shared 33 wonderful years until her passing in 1987. They were blessed with two children, Randy (Nancy) Blackburn and Lorri (Bart) Evans, who carry forward his legacy of strength and kindness.
Jay dedicated 37 years of honorable service to his country, retiring on his 60th birthday, August 21, 1995. His distinguished military career included roles with the 1457 Engineer Battalion, Commander of the 115th Maintenance Company, Logistics Staff Officer, Safety Officer, Director of Personnel for the Utah Army National Guard, and ultimately U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer for Utah.
While living in American Fork, Utah, Jay was an active member of the community. He coordinated the bantam basketball program, played basketball and softball, enjoyed bowling, and served for many years as a volunteer fireman. He was also involved with the American Fork Jaycees and served on the Board of Directors for the Utah Pageant of the Arts.
Jay Married Dorthy Littell, who proceeded him in death in 2024.
Following retirement, Jay relocated to Sun City, Arizona, where he embraced a vibrant and active life. Jay thrived in Sun City—golfing, bowling, making lasting friendships, and serving as both a board member and President of the Sun City Country Club.
Jay was known for his unwavering commitment to staying connected. He had a gift for keeping in touch with the people he loved, often reaching out with regular calls and warm conversations.
He is survived by his children, Randy (Nancy) Blackburn and Lorri (Bart) Evans,4 grandchildren 6 grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. his brother Don Blackburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wives Creta and Dorthy, and brothers Keith(Anne) and Ben(Renee -living)
The family extends special thanks to Jody Littell and Don and Mary Miller for their dedicated friendship and loving care.
Jay leaves behind a legacy of service, generosity, and genuine connection. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Burial will be held at a later date at American Fork City Cemetery, American Fork, Utah.
