In Loving Memory of Mirta Sylvia Ortiz
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mirta Sylvia Ortiz, age 81, of Orlando. Formerly of Chicago, Mirta passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025. She was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on September 26, 1943, to Ramon Varela and Carmen Maria Melendez Varela. Mirta was a retired clerk with the Cook County, IL, court system. She dedicated her life to serving her community, serving as president of the Puerto Rican Lioness Club of Chicago for seven years. Mirta was also an advocate for abused women and had a passion for making care packages for seniors.Mirta is survived by her loving; her sons, Edward Ortiz her sisters, Carmen Santos, Martha Rodriguez, and Flavia Gonzalez; her brother, Oscar Rene Varela; her granddaughter, Melissa Perez; her grandsons, Valentino Ortiz, Giovanni Benito Ortiz, Alexander Ortiz, Daniel Torres-Ortiz, and Gabriel Benito Ortiz; and her great-grandchildren, Mauricio, Alexis, Katrina, Nathaniel, Giovanni, Gianna, Xavier, Ramissa, and Zayna.Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 895 S Goldenrod Road, Orlando, FL 32822. For more information, please contact 407-277-4227. A service to honor Mirta's life will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 12:00pm at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, located at 4301 S. Chickasaw Trail, Orlando. Following the service, interment will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery
