Marlene Jean Koenig
June 18th, 1952 - March 3rd, 2025
"May her spirit gallop freely across the fields of eternity."
Marlene Jean Koenig, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of Monday, March 3, 2025, after a brave battle with esophageal cancer. She was 72 years old.
Born on June 18, 1952, in McMinnville, Oregon, Marlene was the second daughter of Wilma Jean and James Milo Wilbur. She grew up on the family farm in Sheridan, Oregon, alongside her older sister, Carmen. Marlene’s early years were shaped by the beauty and hard work of rural life, where she developed a lifelong love for horses and nature.
On November 18, 1978, Marlene married Ronald L. Koenig, and together they made their home in Canby, Oregon. She worked for much of her life in the trucking and transportation industry, and she took great pride in her ability to “talk like a trucker.” She was known for her dedication to her clients and her enthusiasm for problem-solving. Marlene’s work was a reflection of her character—determined, dependable, and always willing to go the extra mile.
Marlene’s love for horses was a defining part of who she was. Whether riding or tending to them, she was a devoted horsewoman, excelling in many disciplines but always happiest when surrounded by her equine companions. She also had a green thumb, cultivating a beautiful garden filled with veggies and vibrant flowers, especially dahlias, which brought her immense joy.
Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carmen, Marlene is survived by her adoring husband, Ron, and their four sons: Michael (Claudia), Kenny, Keith, and Curtis (Caitlin). She was also the proud grandmother of Rosa and Henry, who both overwhelmed her heart with boundless happiness. While Marlene did not have daughters of her own, she shared a special bond with her niece, Heather Beller, who was like a daughter to her.
Marlene will be remembered for her fierce love of animals, her enthusiastic support of sports, and her infectious spirit that always brightened the room. She was a loyal and generous friend to many, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Marlene’s life will be held this summer at a date yet to be determined. Her family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time.
Rest in peace, Marlene.
