Peggy Sue Woods
March 25th, 1933 - April 17th, 2025
Peggy Sue Woods quietly passed away at 8:29am on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
Peggy was born on March 25, 1933, in Arkansas City, Kansas. She was a frank breech, which means that she was born with her bottom first and her legs were wrapped around her head. The doctor wanted to break her hip to make the birth easier, but her grandma was adamant about not letting that happen. After Peggy was born, her grandma massaged Peggy’s legs while slowly maneuvering her legs into the correct position. Her parents were Kenneth Putnam Wilson and Genevieve Elizabeth Bly. Her brother was Kenneth Edward Wilson. Her dad was a chemist and worked for oil refineries. Later he was a regional manager for a gas station chain. Genevieve Elizabeth Bly had various jobs, including selling Avon and owning a bead shop. Both of her parents sold worms for fishing out of their garage. After Peggy was born, she and her mom stayed with her grandma while Kenneth and his brother-in-law went to Texas to work.
When Peggy was in the 1st grade, her family moved to Derby, CO (now Commerce City). Later, the family moved to Denver and then to Alamosa, CO. Peggy took a home economics class in junior high school, and she enjoyed sewing so much that she learned as much as she could and became an accomplished seamstress. She even became proficient at making draperies. Peggy wants to be remembered for her sewing, knitting, counted cross stitch, beading, and needlework skills. Peggy attended Alamosa High School and was in the marching band playing the drum and cymbals. She was in chorus and the library club and was a stagehand in the junior class play.
Peggy had quite a few jobs in her lifetime. In high school she worked at Sherman Drug Store in Alamosa, mostly at the soda fountain. She also held a cashier position at one of the local theaters, The Grove. After Peggy married and had children, she usually had a part-time or full-time job. She worked as a waitress and in drug stores, department stores, banks, and a bakery. She was also an Avon representative, a Diet Center counselor, and a school lunch cook.
Peggy met her husband, Daniel, in high school. They dated and attended the Presbyterian Church together. One of their favorite things to do was to take long walks together. Dan joined the Navy right after he graduated. A year later after Peggy graduated from high school they were married in San Francisco. They then made their home in San Diego while Dan attended the Navy Electronics School. While in San Diego their first child Dana was born. Six months later Peggy and baby Dana went back to CO to live with her parents while Dan was deployed to Japan. After Dan got out of the Navy, they made their home in Alamosa while he attended school. It was there they met the missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They joined the church in 1955, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Their second child, Gordon, was born while they lived in Alamosa. A few years later they moved to Springville, UT, so Dan could attend Brigham Young University. Dan and Peggy eventually moved back to CO, settling in Lakewood where their third and fourth children, Carrie and Laurel, were born. Other places they lived included Castle Rock, CO; Lacey, WA; Waco, TX; and Houston, TX. After retiring, they moved to South Fork, CO to be closer to Peggy’s family. They were able to enjoy 20 years there. While living in South Fork, they were temple workers at the Albuquerque Temple and Dan served as a branch president in Del Norte and Peggy served in the branch as a Relief Society president. Dan became a municipal judge in South Fork and Peggy got to travel around the state with him when he went to judges’ conventions. They eventually made their home in Loveland, CO, and lived there for almost 13 years.
Dan and Peggy loved to travel, including a trip to Germany, a Hawaiian cruise, and a Disneyland vacation. Most of all, Peggy loved spending time with their family. They always tried to attend weddings, baptisms, ordinations, and graduations. A cherished family destination was Redstone, CO.
Peggy is preceded in death by her mom, Genevieve Bly Wilson Olson; her dad, Kenneth Putnam Wilson; her brother, Kenneth Wilson; and her grandson, Jesse Woods.
Peggy is survived by her spouse, Daniel Bryant Woods; her children: Dana Otte (Steve Otte), Gordon Woods (Robby Woods), Carrie Bryant (Carlton Bryant), Laurel Kwak (Santiago Velasquez); her grandchildren: Elizabeth Otte, David Otte (Tesse Otte), Emily McDonald, Chris Otte (Stephanie Hoffman), Sarah Miller (Lance Miller), Dustin Woods (Jill Woods), Kelly Woods, Daniel Woods (Arianna Woods), Jeff Bryant (Roxy Meyers), Mike Zamora (Robert Zamora), Raylyn Lewis (Nick Lewis), Aaron Kwak (Mikaela Kwak), Ryan Kwak, Brandon Gwak (Alexa Payeur); and 20 great-grandchildren.
