Erika Ejsmont
December 20th, 1923 - April 22nd, 2025
Erika (Gedig) Ejsmont, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who left this world on April 22, 2025, at the age of 101 at her home in Ware, MA. Born in Alleinstein, Germany, Erika's spirit was that of a true spitfire, characterized by her humor, adventurous nature, and unwavering love for her family.
Erika's life was marked by courage and compassion. During World War II, she served as a nurse, tending to soldiers' with dedication and care. In 1956, she and her family emigrated to the United States, where they made their home in Holyoke, MA. She worked for many years as a machine operator at the Brown Paper Company and Parsons Paper. Erika was a faithful communicant of Mater Dolorosa Church.
A woman of vibrant interests, Erika loved to travel, making numerous trips across the United States and a memorable return to her homeland of Coburg, Germany at the remarkable age of 100. She enjoyed spontaneous day trips to places like Quabbin Reservoir and spent countless hours knitting, sewing, and crocheting gifts for her loved ones. Her passion for shopping and her joy in family gatherings brought light and laughter to those around her.Erika is survived by her son Reinhard Ejsmont of Springfield and her daughter Doris Farmer of Ware, MA. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren, a loving great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to one. She was predeceased by her parents, Franz and Johanna Gedig, her husband, Jan Ejsmont, son, Peter Ejsmont, and her son-in-law, Raymond Farmer.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, May 1st, at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Cross Parish in Holyoke. Burial will take place at Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
