Florence 'Peggy' Pope

Florence "Peggy” Pope, 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2020 in Fort Collins. Peggy born in Montclair, New Jersey to Edward S. & Margaret (Muir) Pope on May 15, 1929. After graduating from Smith College with a theater major in 1951, she went on to a successful acting career on stage, television and film that spanned five decades. She appeared in such films as The Last Starfighter (1984), The Substitute (1996), Choke (2008), the television series Bewitched (1968), Calucci’s Department (1973), Soap (1979-1980), Barney Miller (1979-1982), and Night Court (1984-1986). Her Broadway credits include Doctor Jazz (1975), The School for Wives (1971), Moonbirds (1959), and Harvey (1970), in which she appeared with Jimmy Stewart. She was perhaps most recognizable as the office lush, Margaret Foster, in the film Nine to Five (1982). More recently, she dedicated herself to poetry, singing and writing, and published the autobiography Atta Girl: Tales from a Life in the Trenches of Show Business (iUniverse, 2011). Peggy is survived by her nephews and niece, Rob (Maria), Douglas (Martine), and Ross (Charlotte) McConnell, Edward (Nikki) and Wendy (Eric) van den Akker-Kiers; and a loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Bruce and Jim Pope, and Adeline McConnell.
