Helaine Claire Gallanger
January 10th, 1937 - March 18th, 2025
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025 Helaine Claire Gallanger 88, passed away in Centralia, Washington leaving a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories. ♥
Born on January 10, 1937 in Creston, Washington to Mary(Felton) and Gerald Hammond, she joined her parents and four sisters -Geraldine, Liz, Eunice and Lois. Soon after, 3 little brothers showed up, Jerome, Herb and Bruce.♥.
Helaine spent her younger years on Lopez Island and Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington where the family moved to and she cherished as her hometown-a cheerleader in high school, she graduated in 1955. She kept busy after school working as an operator at the phone company, The Friday Harbor Journal and for the Ferry System-making lots of milkshakes and hand dipped ice cream cones!
Summer job at Jackson Fish Cannery. American Legion sponsored her to go to Girls State in1953..
A member of rainbow girls -Friday Harbor. She received her majority in 1955 and was awarded Grand Cross office, and went to Grand Assembly.♥
Helaine married Jim Cary in August 1955 and they relocated to Ballard /Seattle Washington- they welcomed three children, Lynn Marie 1958, David James 1960, Lisa Diane 1963 and raised them in Edmonds, Washington.
She was a gracious and caring Mother. She was also a talented meat wrapper at Albertsons for 7 years♥
A second marriage in 1978, brought Henry Gallanger to her life She relocated to Chehalis, Wa Administrator for Forest Manner assisted Living, Receptionist at Liberty Country Place, Ambassador for Chehalis Centralia Chamber of Commerce and don't forget the many days sun birding in warmer climates with family and friends♥
Henry and Helaine retired to Napavine, Wa where Helaine enjoyed gardening and they we reactive members of Cowlitz County Grange-♥
She moved to SharonCare assisted living in March of 2017.
Parkinsons Disease is a very challenging illness and she fought its takeover until the very lastminute.♥
Helaine will be remembered as a beloved Mother, Aunt, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend. ♥
Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with her spirit and love.♥
She is survived by her three children, Lynn, David, and Lisa. Younger brother, Bruce Hammond, half sisters Ruth and Lou Ann, grandchildren Maxfield, Tina, Bethany, Claire, great grandchildren, Ezra and Ellie, and many beloved nieces and nephews and stepchildren♥
