Healey Mortuary
David Owen Healey
March 24th, 1957 - April 11th, 2025
“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”
David O. Healey, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Monterey, California after an 18-month battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. David was born at SVMH in Salinas, California to Herbert C. and Joyce B. Healey on March 24, 1957. One year earlier, in 1956, Herb Healey had established a Mortuary at 405 N. Sanborn Rd. in Salinas that was soon after named Healey Mortuary.
David, along with his sisters Andrea, Margaret, and Kay Healey enjoyed growing up in East Salinas before the family moved to South Salinas. David attended Hartnell College for 2 years before transferring to Sacramento State University and obtaining a Business Degree with a concentration in Insurance in 1980. While at Sacramento State University, David met his future wife, Lindy. They were married in Sacramento in February 1984.
On July 1, 1984, David and Lindy relocated to Salinas where David began a 41-year-long successful career with Healey Mortuary. David was promptly recognized for his caring and compassionate way with families, along with many hours of dedication to the details of each family's arrangements. As his reputation for serving families’ funeral needs grew so did Healey Mortuary.
David and Lindy had 3 children: Chris Healey (Molly) of Laguna hills, Jennifer Healey of West Sacramento, and Mike Healey (JuliAnne) of Salinas. David has 3 grandboys: Owen Healey (8), Luke Healey (6), and Hudson Healey (3).
David derived hours of enjoyment playing with his dog, camping, going to children's sporting events, along with supporting local teams. GO GIANTS! GO SHARKS! David was a talented builder. As a hobbyist, he built everything from birdhouses and Adirondack chairs to fences and decks.
David will be missed.
The Healey family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to all who participated in Dave's care. The professionals at Salinas Valley Health, the Nurses who provided such excellent care at the Infusion Center, and especially Dr. Geetha Varma and her staff at the Cancer Center. Our family is also very grateful to the caring staff at Healey Mortuary.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at LCGS - Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 580 Larkin St. in Salinas at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. All are welcome.

We Entrusted David Healey's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
