"Rainbows everywheres I goes" - Katie Kent
In Loving Memory of Katie Jeanne Kent
4/27/1984 – 4/16/2025
It is with the greatest sadness imaginable that we announce the passing of Katie Jeanne Kent, who unexpectedly departed this life on April 16th, 2025, at the age of 40, in her home, with her beloved fur-baby and companion, Lester, ever by her side.
Katie Jeanne Kent (Alyea) was born on April 27th, 1984, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Cynthia Anne “Pinky” Alyea (Cowles) and Carl James Alyea, Jr. She grew up in Arvada and attended Metro State University, graduating cum laude with a major in graphic design. An artist to her core, Katie saw art and beauty wherever she went, and created many unique, beautiful, and interesting pieces throughout her life. An avid collector of art that would be deemed by others as odd, bizarre, or strange, Katie and her husband, Scott, curated their own delightfully peculiar mini museum of oddities and curiosities.
In her free time, Katie enjoyed hiking with Scott and their Bichon Frisé and poodle mix, Lester, finding hidden paths and beautiful trails to walk and explore. Big foodies, Katie and Scott loved finding new restaurants and places to indulge their palates, and there was nothing Katie enjoyed more than a good meal with good company, after which they’d settle in for the night to binge a new TV series together. Meow Wolf in Denver was a favorite of Katie and Scott’s, and you could find them there most weekends enjoying the fantastical atmosphere, and leaving behind their own little pieces of art.
Katie was truly one of a kind, and she lived a life full of laughter, adventure, and individuality. She possessed a deep well of creativity, and was a bright, vibrant, unique soul who brought light and laughter wherever she went. Katie’s quick wit, quirkiness, and wild humor touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, never failing to make others laugh with her impressive storytelling and larger-than-life personality. Everyone who was blessed enough to have known Katie’s beautiful, bright-as-light soul mourns her passing with the heaviest hearts imaginable.
Katie is survived by her best friend, soulmate, and husband, Scott Kent; their fur child, Lester; her mother, Pinky; her older sister, Megan Nassir (Alyea); her nieces and nephews, Teal, Jadyn, and Aurora, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Carl Alyea, who passed away in June of 2011.
Katie was like sunshine, and though she may no longer walk beside us in her physical body, her spirit will forever remain with us, shining her golden light down upon us. In life, Katie danced to the beat of her drum, teaching us all to live in our own individuality and uniqueness, and in death she will continue to do the same. Katie’s message to us is to live life to the fullest, find joy in the little things, and laugh long and loud whenever you can, because we never know how much time we truly have left.
A celebration of Katie’s life will be held on Friday, June 13th, at
