Jan Marie O'Malley

Jan Marie O’Malley, formerly Janet Marie Schwalbe (Flaherty), 73, of Whitewater, Wisconsin passed away Monday, March 3, 2025. Jan was born September 18, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Thomas and Eileen (Zaspel) Flaherty.
Jan worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for most of her career. She took an extended leave from the Army Corps to raise her three sons, one of her most beloved life’s achievement. With a love of learning in her heart, Jan later returned to college after her sons were grown and she pursued her passion for education. Jan adored the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and riding her bike on the shore of Lake Superior. She felt inspired by nature, often drawing scenes of lakeshores and gardens and writing poetry.
Survivors include her sons, William (Greg) Schwalbe, John (Margot) Schwalbe, and Rick (Laura) Schwalbe; she is also survived by her grandson Bevan Schwalbe.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and hospice nurses for their support over the last several years.
In honor of Jan’s memory, memorials can be made to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
