Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, and friend.
Janet Shirleen Porter, 75, wife of Melvin E. Porter, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025. She was born in Glasgow, KY on September 6, 1949, to the late Ercie Molene Morgan and Herman Jefferson Comer. Janet worked as an accounting clerk supervisor. Janet was married to the love of her life for more than 57 years. She met her husband when she was 14 years old and they married several years later and brought three children into the world together. Janet spent most of her years caring for her family unconditionally and chasing after her grandchildren. She always attended the many events for her grandchildren and one of her favorite past times was ‘picking on her husband’.
Besides her husband, Melvin, those left to cherish her memory includes her daughter, Kimberly Lynn Elkin; son, Melvin “Shannon” (Christiana) Porter; brothers, Joey Comer, Kevin (Tina) Comer; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janet is preceded in death by her son, Shawn Michael Porter; brother, David Comer; son-in-law, Ron Elkin; and her sister-in-law, Shirley Comer.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 12:30pm at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Visitation will be held at 9:30am until the time of the service. Graveside will follow at 1:30pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
