Shirley Ann Washington
March 29th, 1947 - April 17th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Shirley Ann Washington, born on March 29, 1947, in Oakland, California, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, California. She was an only child who grew up in Oakland and built a remarkable life filled with love and resilience. Shirley dedicated 35 years of her career to the Government Services Administration (GSA), where she was admired for her commitment and work ethic.
Shirley is survived by her husband, with whom she maintained a strong, caring relationship despite years of separation, and her beloved sons, Omar and Lamar Washington. Known for her candid nature, she was a realist who never hesitated to express her thoughts. Yet, her heart overflowed with compassion; she cared deeply for everyone around her, evident in her nurturing spirit and the love she shared with all.
A fierce fighter, Shirley battled through months of hospitalization, determined to enjoy life as fully as possible. She was not just a mother to her sons but also a mother figure to many. Her warmth and kindness extended beyond her family; even strangers on the BART train that she took to work in San Francisco felt her infectious spirit.
A celebration of her life will be held on May 17, 2025, where family and friends will gather to honor the memory of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of so many.

We Entrusted Shirley Washington's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
