She was an only child who grew up in Oakland and built a remarkable life filled with love and resilience. Shirley dedicated 35 years of her career to the Government Services Administration (GSA), where she was admired for her commitment and work ethic.

Shirley is survived by her husband, with whom she maintained a strong, caring relationship despite years of separation, and her beloved sons, Omar and Lamar Washington. Known for her candid nature, she was a realist who never hesitated to express her thoughts. Yet, her heart overflowed with compassion; she cared deeply for everyone around her, evident in her nurturing spirit and the love she shared with all.

A fierce fighter, Shirley battled through months of hospitalization, determined to enjoy life as fully as possible. She was not just a mother to her sons but also a mother figure to many.
