Robert W. Slice
March 1st, 1936 - April 27th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Robert Wilbur Slice, 89, of Swansea, South Carolina, closed his eyes on earth and opened them in heaven after a short illness on Sunday, April 27, 2025. He was born on March 1, 1936, in Swansea to Junnie Hutto Slice and Myrtle Wise Slice.
Robert graduated from University High School before proudly serving in the United States Navy as a Torpedo-man First Class (E-5). After his military service, he built a long and respected career as a Tool and Die Maker with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Rau Fasteners, and Consolidated Systems. His talents extended beyond his profession; he was a skilled woodworker who crafted everything from houses to toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his younger years, Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking. He found joy in tinkering in his workshop, meticulously organizing nails and screws by size and shape. Known for his resourcefulness, he took pride in recycling materials others might discard. Many affectionately knew him as "The Doughnut Man," a nickname earned by his thoughtful habit of delivering Krispy Kreme doughnuts to those who cared for him.
Family gatherings brought “Grampy" immense happiness, especially when they involved sharing meals—ribs being a particular favorite—and playing games together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters; infant son, Robert Wayne Slice; and his daughter, Cynthia L. "Cindy" Slice.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lillian A. Slice; his brother, Larry Slice (Caroline); daughters, Lori A. Hatcher (David) and Christina M. Slice; grandchildren, Jamie Marie Slice, Kristen Hatcher Madrid (Michael), Mary Leigh Gaza (Josiah), Ryan Redner (Brittany), and Russell Redner; great-grandchildren, Octavia, Luke, Lauren, Caroline, Andrew, and Collin; and his adopted “daughter”, Amy Welch.
Bob’s life was a testament to gratitude, creativity, and love for family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, at 3 pm at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree St., West Columbia, SC.
Bob’s family would like to express their thanks to the kind doctors, nurses, and support personnel at Lexington Medical Center and Lexington Medical Center Extended Care for the excellent care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, please help Dad continue to support the ministries that provided support to him: EmmanuWheel (wheelchair ramps for the needy) https://www.emmanuwheel.org/how-to-help.html and the Calhoun County EMS, 211 Mill St., St. Matthews, SC 29135.
