Richard Charles “Dick” Torrance
August 11, 1938 - April 20th, 2025
Dick was born to Charles and Mary Torrance and raised in Seattle, Washington. He attended O’Dea High School and the University of Washington. Dick was in the Army Reserves from 1957-1968. He worked at Boeing as a mechanic on the B-52 airplanes before going to work for Westinghouse as a purchasing manager. He then worked for Rome Cable Company for another 31 years and became the Western Regional Manager retiring in 2000.
Dick was married in 1961 and is survived by his wife Karen, of 64 years; three children, Cheri Wells of Molalla, Debbie Spathas (Marty) of Portland, and Susie Freeman (Tom) of Harrisburg. He loved and adored his six grandchildren; Danielle Wells, Mckenna, Natalie, and Nico Spathas, Alyssa (Freeman) Terrien and Molly Freeman. Dick has two beautiful great grandchildren; Isabella and Noah. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Nordin of Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his brother James Torrance.
Dick enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, gardening, fishing, and bowling. He was president of the Portland Bowling Association from 1996-1997. He was a former member of the Summerfield Men’s Golf Club in Tigard. Dick was a strong believer in his faith and served as a eucharist minister for 10 years at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Dick will be remembered as a loving husband, caring brother, amazing father, and a great story telling grandfather.
