It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diana Lynn Arens on April 18, 2025, at the age of 54, in Olympia, Washington. Born on June 13, 1970, in Auburn, Washington, Diana enjoyed a vibrant life marked by her unwavering spirit and commitment to serving others.
Diana's educational journey began in her hometown, where she attended North Auburn Elementary, Cascade Middle School, and Auburn High School. She continued her studies at Evergreen College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology Communications in 1993, and later a Master of Public Administration in 2015. Her commitment to education and learning reflected her earnest desire to make a difference in her community.
Professionally, Diana was known for her exemplary contributions as a Senior Budget Analyst at Thurston County. She held various roles, including Senior Operational Budget Manager with the Washington State Attorney General's Office and as a Program Director at KAOS Radio. Her experiences as an on-air host and audio engineer exemplified her love for communication and storytelling. Diana’s past as a newspaper reporter at The Jolt showcased her passion for politics and advocacy.
Beyond her career, Diana's joyful personality shone through in all aspects of her life. She was described as happy, always helpful, and ready for an adventure. Diana had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel valued and cared for, often prioritizing the needs of others above her own.
Diana leaves behind her partner, Claude Coats; her brother, Bob Arens; her beloved mother, Susie Arens; and great uncle, Freeman Davis. She is reunited in spirit with her late father Mike Arens, along with her grandparents John and Roberta Arens, uncle Jim Arens, great-grandmother Paulin Davis, and her grandparents Dolier and Charlene Fesler, who cherished her deeply.
In her free time, Diana indulged in her passions for photography, travel, attending concerts, and exploring her ancestry. Her playful curiosity and desire to connect with others will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.
A ceremony to honor and celebrate Diana’s life will be held on May 3, 2025, from 10 AM to 3 PM at Capital Theater, located at 2110 Brown St SE, Olympia, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to local charities in Diana's memory, fostering the spirit of service that she embodied throughout her life.
