Sonya Gail Chesmore Wainwright
With our hearts filled with sorrow and eternal hope, we would like to announce the passing of Sonya on April 27, 2025, surrounded by family in Tucson, Arizona. She is now free from the burden of dementia and can rest in peace. She will be dearly missed.
She was born March 31,1937 in Seattle Washington. She grew up in an Air Force family as a dependent and moved around to many places. She met and married Robert Wainwright, July 1956, who was also in the Air Force. Sonya lived the military life in many different states until they retired in 1976 and returned to Tucson.
Together they have five children, and it was her passion raising and caring for them while supporting her husband’s career. She loved spending time with her family and always made herself available. She was a nurturer at heart. She also cared for her four brothers when she was growing up as if they were her own. She sold Avon for over 30 years and was an avid reader of novels. She loved knitting and crocheting blankets for loved one and donating lap blankets to the veterans and hospitals. She also loved to travel. She had a love of owls and a large collection all over her home.
She is survived by daughters, Cathy Stotts (Charlie), Betty Wainwright and Tina Connors, and son Bob Wainwright, Jr. (Joan), seven grandchildren (Charles Brian Stotts (Morgan), Amy Daniel (Eric Brisco), Samantha Wainwright (Justin Montgomery), Robert III, Alex (Ellen), Nathaniel Connors, Aaron Connors (Alyssa) eight great grandchildren, Charlee Ann, Shelby, Anthony Jr., Payton, Brian, MaryElla, Rosie and Forrest. She is preceded in death by Robert Wainwright, husband, son Brian Wainwright, and granddaughter Theresa Manjarrez.
We would like to thank all the staff at Affirmative Care Home and Harmony Hospice that has taken such great care of her during these last few years.
