In Loving Memory

Brenda C. Kay passed away on April 25, 2025 in Monterey, California at age 83.

Brenda was born in Gibson Station, Virginia on April 9th, 1942. As a child Brenda moved to Loyall, Kentucky, graduating from Loyall High School in 1960.  In 1960, Brenda married Harold Edward Kay, a career Navy man.  While maintaining Loyall as a home-base, Brenda and Harold raised two children as Harold’s Navy career sent him to different duty stations.  In 1976 Harold retired from the Navy allowing him and Brenda to return to Loyall full time.

Brenda was a proud and long-term member of Loyall Church of Christ.  In 2021, due to health issues, Brenda moved to Monterey, California to be with her daughter.  While in California Brenda often spoke with affection for “her people” in Loyall.

Brenda was preceded in death by her husband Harold (2011), her parents William Hugh Collins (1977) and Jessie Carmack Collins (1944), her stepmother Allie Mae Reeder Collins (2011), sister Barbara Myers (2021), and brothers James Collinsworth and Don Hensley.

Brenda is survived by her brother Thomas Collins, children Catherine Stokes and Harold E. Kay Jr., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  As well as five nephews and a niece.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
