Sheri lived in Parker Colorado at the time of her death.  She died on Thursday, May 1st from cancer that had spread from her bladder to her liver and lungs.   She was born in Denver, Colorado on October 10, 1957.   Her parents were Stanley & Erna Martin.   At age four the family moved to the north Houston area.  She graduated from Tomball High School in 1975 and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in December 1978.

Sheri met her husband, Larry, their last semester of college, moved to Dallas in 1979 and they were married in February 1980.   She was a medical social worker for Dallas County and later with Visiting Nurses Association.   Her concern for others never wavered.

Her son, Mark, was born in November 1986 and her world & her focus changed, she began working part-time, this continued until the family moved to Tulsa in 1989.  She worked part-time and emphasized being the best mother possible.   Another transfer took the family back to Dallas where she supported Mark navigating school and sports and made many friends.

Sheri had always wanted to move back to her home state of Colorado.   The “Mountain Girl” appreciated that almost every family vacation went back to Colorado.   Larry finally had an opportunity to transfer to Denver in January, 2013.   Everyone, including her parents and later in the year Mark, moved to the Denver area that year.    She loved viewing the mountains even on the way to the grocery store! Rocky Mountain National Park became her favorite place to go.

In June 2016, her grandson, Jacob Wayne Pennington was born and a new star entered her constellation.  She cared for Jacob at home; played, laughed, loved and fed him on Taco Tuesday at every opportunity.

Sheri loved all animals, especially Shetland Sheepdogs.   She and Larry had seven dogs over the years and they were all special.   In addition, she loved to garden, grow native plants & flowers and enjoying the outdoors in Colorado.   The Columbine was of course her favorite flower.   Every home they lived in was more beautiful when she moved because of the gardening and landscaping they completed.

As a life-long Methodist, she is a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch.  She was very proud to be a member of this caring and Reconciling church.   Sheri was a staunch advocate of political justice for all, especially for those less fortunate.  She wanted people to be kind and generous to others and to be the change they wanted to see in the world.

Sheri touched so many lives with her caring, loving, understanding and thoughtful ways.   She offered guidance and suggestions when asked, respected privacy diligently and helped many people resolve problems and find second chances.   There are many who loved her and will miss her terribly, but none more than Larry, her husband of 45 years!

Sheri is preceded in death by her father, Stanley Martin; mother, Erna Martin; innumerable amount of cousins and friends; and 10 family dogs and 1 grand-dog Dahlia. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Pennington; son, Mark Pennington; daughter in-law, Abbie Pennington; and her grandson, Jacob Pennington.
