Christie M. Hagen
June 12th, 1941 - April 11th, 2025
Christie M. Hagen, 83, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025.
She was born on June 12, 1941, in Monte Vista, Colorado, to Abe and Lupita (Gonzales) Maes. Christie grew up in Denver alongside her five siblings and graduated from East High School in 1959. On September 21, 1961, she married Kenny, and together they shared 63 years of marriage.
In 1972, Christie earned her cosmetology license and went on to work in many roles throughout her life—beautician, waitress, fast food worker, factory employee, and babysitter. Her favorite job, however, was working at the greenhouse, where her natural talent for nurturing plants brought her great joy. She was deeply saddened when the greenhouse closed.
Christie was celebrated for her candid spirit, lively personality, and radiant smile. She spoke her mind without hesitation, a quality that won her many loyal friends—and, at times, a few challengers. Through it all, she stayed true to herself. She leaves behind a rich legacy of unforgettable stories that will continue to be shared for generations.
While her daughters were still young, Christie immersed herself in their world—volunteering with the PTA and even coaching sports, despite having little experience. She also gave her time generously to the local senior center, where she found joy in leading arts and crafts, organizing bingo nights, and forming meaningful bonds within the community. Whenever she traveled, the beach was her haven, she loved nothing more than listening to the ocean and watching the waves roll in.
She is survived by her daughters, Michele Roybal and Renee (Phillip) Castillo; grandchildren Craig (Patricia), Ashley (Ben), Lauren (Daniel), and Travis; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Scott and brother Paul Maes.
Christie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Hagen; her parents, Abe and Lupita Maes; and her siblings Joe Maes, Vernon Maes, and Nina Costigan.
