Ronald Dean Bevans
April 30th, 1936 - April 24th, 2025
Ronald Dean Bevans was born April 30, 1936, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Wayne E. and Erma G. (Sams) Bevans. He passed away on April 24, 2025, just before his 89th birthday at a senior living facility in Castle Pines, CO.
Ron grew up in the Rush, Colorado community and graduated from Miami-Yoder High School in 1954. He remained in Rush after high school and later married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Rapp, on August 31, 1957 in Raton, New Mexico. They had two (2) sons, Ronald Joe and Larry Wayne.
He was a retired equipment operator for the Street Division of the City of Colorado Springs for approximately thirty (30) years. Prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 1981, Ron and Mary Ann raised their sons in Rush, CO where he farmed and ranched for 23 years (1958-1981). He also drove 45 miles roundtrip to work at Nichols Tillage Tools in Simla, CO for nearly 12 years (1969-1981) to supplement the family income.
He loved his family and friends and enjoyed sharing the stories with anyone who would listen about the experiences he had with each of them. As a participant, Ron loved competing in baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He also loved coaching Little League, Babe Ruth, and Legion Baseball. Ron loved listening and dancing to country music, especially classic country. He was Joe’s biggest fan, attending all of his musical performances, and dancing with Mary Ann to Joe’s music every chance they had.
In his later years, Ron rarely missed an opportunity to watch and talk professional sports, particularly if it involved the Rockies, Nuggets, Broncos as well as the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (“PRCA”). There was always some time left for Ron, Mary Ann (and other family members/friends) to “run up the hill” to play the slot machines in Cripple Creek. He is best remembered for his friendships and the value he placed in them.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 143 for 57 years. He was also active for many years as a member of the Holtwood Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Ann (Rapp) Bevans, and his son, Larry (Amy Mae) Bevans of Castle Pines, CO. Ron is also survived by his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Kira (Rico) Perez; Ryan (Megan, sons Nolan and Troy) Bevans; Jared (Jamie) Bevans; Shannon Bevans; and Kaylee Bevans; one sister, Nina (Irv) Fuchs and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his oldest son, Joe Bevans and daughter-in-law Lisa Bevans. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Erma Bevans, newborn brother Robert Charles Bevans, brother Arnie (Dixie) Bevans and sister Donna (Darwin) Harfert.
The funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Central United Methodist Church, 4373 Galley Road, Colorado Springs, CO. A graveside burial service will commence later that day at 1:30 P.M. at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO.
