Judith R. Mathieu
June 5th, 1940 - May 5th, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Reid Mathieu, 84, a longtime resident of Brimfield, Massachusetts. Judy passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on May 5, 2025.
Born on June 5, 1940, Judy was the daughter of the late Gordon N. Reid Sr. and Madelyn (McGowan) Reid. She spent most of her childhood in Brimfield, where she built lifelong connections and memories. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Jacques A. Mathieu, with whom she shared 63 devoted years of marriage. Together, they lived in several locations before settling permanently in Brimfield in 1975 to take part in the family business.
Alongside her husband Jacques, her sister Jill Reid Lukesh, and brother-in-law Peter Lukesh, Judy operated Gordon Reid Company Antique Shows, later known as J&J Promotions. Carrying on the legacy started by her father in 1959, Judy and her family grew the show into a premier outdoor antique event at Auction Acres, cherished by exhibitors and attendees alike. They continued to run the shows until their retirement in 2016.
Judy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jacques; her parents, Gordon and Madelyn Reid; her brother, Gordon N. Reid Jr.; and her sister, Jill Reid Lukesh.
She is survived by her daughters, Laurel Mathieu Prescott and her husband John of Brimfield, and Jill Mathieu O'Day and her husband Darryl of Warren, MA; her stepchildren, Bernard Mathieu of Georgia and Michelle Brooks of Fort Lauderdale, FL, whom she welcomed into her heart with open arms; her brother-in-law, Alphonse Mathieu of Erie, PA; brother-in-law, Peter Lukesh of Vero Beach, FL; and her cherished grandchildren: Christina Mathieu, Andrea Kaiser and her husband Tyler, Benjamin Keating, Hannah Prescott, Ian Prescott, Jonathan Balderelli and his wife Meghan, and Evan Balderelli and his fiancée Tiffany Williams. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren: Parker Logie, Harper, Kylie, and Kannon Kaiser, Charlotte and Georgia Keating, and Alexander and Caroline Balderelli; as well as her niece and nephew, Kathy Mathieu-Pipemeyer and Gordon N. Reid III.
Judy’s enduring love for her family, her kindness, and her generous spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Lake George Tavern for giving Judy a sense of comfort and community in her final years. Special appreciation is extended to her spirited nurse Stefanie, whose energy and care brightened Judy’s days - she is a special angel, and to Kelsey, Ann Marie, and Ashley of Care Central Hospice for their compassionate support during Judy’s final journey.
A private, family service will be held at their convenience. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made, in her name, to the Catholic Woman's Club of St. Christopher's church in Brimfield MA or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
