Bonnie Jean Thompson(Workman)
July 12th, 1950 - May 6th, 2025
In the early morning hours of May 6, 2025, Bonnie Jean Thompson passed away peacefully in Olympia, WA after a valiant struggle with dementia. She spent her last day on this earth surrounded by her dearest loved ones and the love of all who knew her best. She was 74 years old. Her family is especially thankful for the humane and dignified care she received at J and F Adult Family Home, The Hampton Memory Care Community and Assured Hospice of Olympia.
Bonnie was born on July 12, 1950, in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from South High School in 1968 and married her high school sweetheart, David Workman, in 1970. She graduated from Pierce College in 1998 and The Evergreen State College in 2002.
Bonnie lived her life in service to others. Throughout her career and life, she was a dedicated and soft-hearted caregiver. Most of her career was spent as a social worker in Thurston and Mason Counties supporting patients and their families during some of their most difficult times. She volunteered for organizations in the community that helped animals, seniors, the theater community, her church, and voter outreach efforts.
Bonnie was a dedicated mother who raised two busy daughters while furthering her education and career – showing them you could be a great mom and a professional at the same time. Perhaps her greatest and favorite role, though, was as a grandma. She adored her four grandchildren and was there for them in every way and truly found her calling being the best Mimi anyone could ever ask for. She also carried a special place in her heart for animals of all kinds, from her many pets and ‘grand pets’ to the birds outside her window to the farm animals she would visit on her trips east to see Johnny & Ruby.
She is survived by her four grandchildren, Adria & Tobias Klotz (Portland, OR) and John & Ruby Feenan (Trumansburg, NY); her daughters and sons-in-law, Kara & Tim Klotz (Olympia, WA) and Kirsten Workman & Paul Feenan (Trumansburg, NY); her brother and sister-in-law Michael & Robin Thompson (Morrow, Ohio); cousins Sue Truitt & Peggy Schueler (Colorado Springs, CO); her dear friend Jenn Kurtz (Portsmouth, NH); and David Workman (Olympia, WA).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Naomi Thompson (2011) and Bill Thompson (2005).
A celebration of her life will be held on August 15th from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Rose Garden at Squaxin Island Park in Olympia. In lieu of gifts or flowers, consider a donation in her memory to Joint Animal Services of Thurston County( https://jointanimalservices.org/ ) or the GLSEN Rainbow Library( https://rainbowlibrary.org/ ).
