It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris “Jean” Lodeen, on May 4, 2025, in Olympia, Washington, at the age of 89. Jean was born on August 5, 1935, in Vancouver Washington and lived in Port Angeles, Olympia and Tumwater, Washington.

Jean led a life rich with love and devotion to her family. She is survived by her son, Donald (Cyndi) Presnell, her daughter, Debra Spurgeon (Bruce Budrow), as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy. She will also be missed by her dear brothers, Ken Engle and Howard Keene and her loving sisters, Judy Osborn and Mary Mills. Jean was preceded in death by her second husband, Clint Hicks, and her third husband, Erv Lodeen; she also grieved the loss of her parents, Jesse Engle and Emma Mae Krout, her grandparents, John and Mary Engle, Olive and Clell Krout, along with her siblings, Gary, Phyllis, and Roxy.

Her professional journey began as a long-distance telephone operator from 1956 to 1959, before she transitioned to a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper in the plywood industry, where she dedicated a significant part of her life. Jean was known for her determination, attention to detail, and deep commitment to her work.

In her personal life, music played a vital role; she was talented at playing the organ, accordion, and lap guitar. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing in the church choir and many social events. Jean also sang on the radio. She cherished her time with family and friends, always lighting up the room with her beautiful smile.

Jean also found great tranquility in watching birds. She loved knitting, reading, and crafting beautiful needlepoint artworks.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead, Fieldstone Memory Care, and Assured Hospice, who brought joy into Jean’s life over the last eight years. Their kindness and compassion were a source of comfort for her and her family.

As we remember Jean, we will carry her legacy of love, dedication, and creativity in our hearts, celebrating the beautiful life she led and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed but will forever remain a cherished part of our family and friends.
