Eugene F. Niminski
August 27th, 1924 - May 6th, 2025
In loving memory of Eugene Niminski who passed away at the age of 100 surrounded by his loving family. Eugene was born August 27, 1924. He was raised in the Bronx by his parents Bronislaw and Ladislawa Niminski. Eugene attended St. Adalbert’s and Morris High School. He graduated early from Morris High School to enlist in the United States Army. Eugene became a paratrooper in 1943 with the greatest division in United States history, the 82nd airborne.
Eugene said “he never met a braver or finer group of men in his life.” He jumped into Normany, France on June 5, 1944 at the beginning of D-Day. He later parachuted into Holland for Operation Market Garden. Eugene went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, the largest and bloodiest US battle in World War II. He often said, “I was just a lucky kid from the Bronx who made it all the way to Berlin.”
Eugene’s luck would continue when he came home and married Helen Daly, the most beautiful redhead and love of his life. They went on to enjoy 72 incredible years of marriage. They moved from the Bronx to Garnerville, New York and lived there for the rest of their lives. Sadly, his beautiful wife, Helen, passed away in 2019.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Patricia Calvano of Fort Myers. Florida, Kenneth Niminski, Garnerville and Robert Niminski, Tomkins Cove, New York. He was predeceased by his son, Richard and daughter, Laura. Eugene’s faith in God never wavered even after the loss of two of his children at an early age.
He loved summer vacations at the Jersey Shore and vacation cruises with his friends. He took great joy in his holidays in Paris, Normandy, Ireland and many other European destinations. It was during these vacations that he opened up about his life changing experiences during the war. These trips brought him full circle from the horrors of World War II to the wonderful and fulfilled life he lived with his family.
He will be remembered for his love of family, friends, and the joy he felt when they gathered together especially with his grandchildren, Christopher. Wynter and Brian. There will be a viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 at T.J. McGowan Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY on Saturday May 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville. Burial will be held privately at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Monday May 19. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warriors.
