Michael Andrew Winegar
1959 - 2025
"Music can change the world because it can change people."
Michael Andrew Winegar, age 66, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, May 8th, 2025. He was born to John and Deloris Winegar on February 21st, 1959. Mike married his love, Janet Hammonds in September 2005.
Mike graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1977 and then went on to graduate from the Tennessee Eastman Company Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Program in 1983. Mike continued his career with Eastman Chemical Company in Quality Assurance Inspection until his passing. Mike was a member of Believers Church in Kingsport where he shared his God given talent of music with his church community.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother David Winegar, niece Haleigh Winegar, brother-in-law Randy Norris and Father-in-law Johnny Hammonds.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Janet; sons Chris and John (Amanda); daughter Michelle (Kenny); granddaughter Lilli Bug; brother Sam (Patty); sisters Debbie Norris and Becky Mann (Buzzy); sister-in-law Sarah; mother-in-law Joyce Hammonds; brothers-in-law Ronnie (Rose) and Terry (Valerie) and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as a multitude of friends and his special fishing buddy Jeff Mullins.
Mike was an avid musician who played in multiple bands and in many worship settings throughout his life. Mike’s love of music was born out of the weekends he spent with his dad, mom, brother Sam and many aunts and uncles making music together. Later in life Mike developed a love for boating and fishing at Gilmore Dock on Cherokee Lake, where he could be found with his dog and co-pilot Kramer. Many sweet memories were made there with Jannie Belle, his kids, family and friends. Mike’s granddaughter Lilli Bug brought a sparkle to his eye and a bounce in his heart. He so enjoyed celebrating her birthday with her two days before he moved to Heaven.
The family will receive friends from 11 am – 1 pm on Wednesday May 14th, 2025, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home’s Kingsport location. Funeral services will follow visitation in the chapel with Pastor Richard Isaacs officiating, including eulogies given by Mike’s daughter Michelle, son John, and brother Sam.
