It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen William Schlenker, who departed this life on May 1, 2025, in Lakewood, Washington. Born on January 25, 1961, in Seattle, Washington, Steve was a vibrant spirit whose influence extended far beyond his years.
Steve was a beloved partner to Wendy Zucker, with whom he shared 11 years filled with love and laughter. He was father to two wonderful daughters, Moraelin, 29, and Eileah, 28. His deep compassion and infectious personality made him a cherished figure in the lives of those who knew him. As a graduate of the Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting in the early '80s, Steve found his calling in the world of radio, mostly in the South Sound at stations like KGY, KAYO, KELA/KMNT, with a stint in Mount Vernon at KAPS/KBRC. His engaging presence on air allowed him to connect with listeners, forging lasting relationships through the power of music and conversation.
A true aficionado of classic rock, Steve's passion for music was evident in both his professional and personal life. He enjoyed attending concerts and played the guitar in various bands, sharing his love for music with those around him. Known for his warm-hearted nature, Steve was not only a talented broadcaster but also a true friend to many. He brought joy, compassion, and understanding to his interactions, leaving an indelible mark on all who met him.
Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating Steve's life on June 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Priest Point Park, Shelter #3, located at 2600 East Bay Drive NE, Olympia, Washington. Bring your stories, some food to share, an appetite for cake, and wear your favorite band or sports t-shirt.
In honor of Steve's legacy, we invite those wishing to express their condolences to remember him for the joy he brought into their lives, the music he loved, and the connections he forged.
